Smart Fortwo

It may divide opinion, but the Smart ForTwo is one of the most instantly recognisable cars on the planet.

If you’re looking for a car that’s purpose built for an urban environment, then look no further than the Smart ForTwo. Refined over time, there are now three generations of the Smart ForTwo, with each offering unique styling, great manoeuvrability, and good refinement.

The ForTwo is great for urban drivers looking to make a statement. Since 1997, almost 100,000 people have bought a Smart ForTwo, and the vehicle remains highly popular to this day.

The latest generation model is slightly higher and wider than the older versions, providing a superior driving position. For town driving, you can still park the car nose-on to the kerb. This is because the engine remains in the boot, meaning that there’s no defined bonnet. There’s also now more interior space, which as well as providing greater practicality also gives a more ‘conventional’ feel. There’s a coupe model and a convertible model, depending on the type of vehicle you’d like!

In all versions, the rear-engined platform allows for a sub-seven metre turning circle, which effectively allows the car to pivot on the spot. This makes it as simple as possible to get in and out of even the tightest of spaces and round the sharpest of bends.

There are two different sub-one litre, three-cylinder rear-mounted petrol engines available. Both offer over 67mpg and CO2 emissions well below 100g/km. As standard, you get a five-speed manual gearbox, but you can opt for a six-speed, dual-clutch automatic if you prefer.

The interior is also a lovely place to be for drivers and passengers alike, with the top spec models providing a floating 7” infotainment screen. In addition, there’s also cruise control, heated seats and a panoramic roof on offer, depending on whether you choose the Passion, Prime or Proxy trim level.

The ForTwo isn’t the quickest car on the market, which can make it noisy and sluggish on national speed limit roads, but if you do a lot of urban mileage, then the ForTwo is a great option for you to consider.
